Terms of Service

Last updated: July 14, 2026

1. Agreement

By creating an account or using the Destined for Success platform, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the platform.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old, or have parent/guardian consent and supervision, to create an account. Donors must be 18 or older and able to enter binding agreements in their jurisdiction.

3. Your account

  • You're responsible for keeping your password secure.
  • You must provide accurate information when signing up.
  • One person per account. Don't share accounts or create accounts for someone else without their consent.

4. Donations

Support is voluntary and person-to-person. Supporters choose which students to help and at what level. All funds are sent and received through the supporter's own outside service, not through Destined for Success. The platform never holds or moves money, does not process, collect, hold, or route any payment, and takes no cut. We only keep a record, such as a screenshot or a link when one is available, to confirm the amount and keep track of the support given. Because we never hold the funds, any refund is strictly between the supporter and the student through the outside service they used; we can help mediate but cannot reverse a payment ourselves.

We do not currently hold federal 501(c)(3) status. Donations are not tax-deductible during this period unless the donor receives a formal receipt confirming otherwise. We will update this section once our nonprofit status is finalized.

A gift is a gift. Support given through the platform is a voluntary charitable gift — not an investment, loan, or purchase. It creates no ownership stake, no expectation of repayment or financial return, and no obligation for the student to do anything in return. Students set their own funding goals, and we do not guarantee that any goal will be met, and we do not independently verify how a student uses the support they receive beyond reviewing their application. Give to the students and goals you believe in, and treat any amount you send as a gift you are comfortable giving.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Misrepresent your identity or financial need.
  • Use the platform to harass, exploit, or harm anyone.
  • Contact a student beyond the platform without that student's explicit consent. Meetings, calls, and any move to outside channels happen only when the student themselves says yes — pressuring a student for private contact information, or contacting them through channels they have not agreed to, is grounds for immediate removal.
  • Solicit donations for purposes other than your own education and development.
  • Scrape, reverse-engineer, or attempt to disrupt the platform.

See our Community Guidelines for the full picture.

6. Meetings and off-platform communication

Meetings proposed on the platform — video, phone, or in person where allowed — are scheduled only after the other participant explicitly accepts. For students, that acceptance must come from the student themselves, and every student may refuse or cancel any meeting or contact at any time, for any reason. For an accepted meeting, the platform sends the invitation, confirmations, and reminders, and may ask both participants afterward whether it took place and how it went.

As part of connecting here, you may be invited to continue a conversation or hold a meeting outside the platform — a phone call, a video link, a calendar invite. Whether to accept is always your choice. If you do communicate or meet off the platform, you do so at your own judgment and risk: you are responsible for deciding it is safe and appropriate first, and Destined for Success does not supervise, control, or record off-platform interactions and is not responsible or liable for what happens in them. By using the platform you acknowledge and agree to this.

We still want to know when something goes wrong. Report any concerning behavior — on or off the platform — through the report tool or support@destinedforsuccess.org. We review every report and act on the account involved, up to permanent removal.

7. Content and ownership

You keep ownership of anything you post. By posting, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to display it on the platform for the purpose of running the service. You're responsible for making sure you have the right to share what you post.

8. Termination

We can suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, misuse the platform, or harm other users. You can delete your account at any time by emailing support@destinedforsuccess.org.

9. Disclaimers and liability

The platform is provided "as is." We don't guarantee specific outcomes — financial, academic, or otherwise. Mentorship advice is given in good faith but is not professional financial, legal, or medical advice. Interactions that participants choose to take outside the platform are their own responsibility, as described in section 6. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages.

10. Changes to these terms

We'll post material changes here and update the "Last updated" date. Continuing to use the platform after changes means you accept the new terms.
